Session budget planner
Enter a monthly amount you could lose without touching essentials, the number of sessions and the bets per session. The planner returns a ceiling per session and a stake per bet, and checks the stake against the KES 20 online minimum. It plans spending; it cannot predict a result.

The formulas
The first three lines are plain division. The last line uses the average payback of a market, 1 ÷ (1 + margin): what is not paid back on average is the cost. It assumes each shilling of the budget is staked once and that the margin is spread evenly over the outcomes.
Illustrative example
A monthly ceiling of KES 2,000 over 4 sessions gives KES 500 per session. Five bets per session gives a stake of KES 100. At KES 20 per bet the session ceiling would cover at most 25 bets.
With a market margin of 6%, the average payback is 1 ÷ 1.06 = 94.34%, so the average cost is 5.66% of what is staked: about KES 28.30 per session and KES 113.21 per month. Actual results in any one month can be anywhere between losing the full KES 2,000 and ending ahead; the average only describes the long run.
How the ceiling divides
| Monthly ceiling | Sessions | Per session | Bets per session | Stake per bet | Check against KES 20 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KES 400 | 4 | KES 100 | 5 | KES 20 | At the minimum |
| KES 400 | 8 | KES 50 | 5 | KES 10 | Below: plan at most 2 bets per session |
| KES 1,000 | 4 | KES 250 | 5 | KES 50 | Above |
| KES 2,000 | 4 | KES 500 | 5 | KES 100 | Above |
| KES 2,000 | 10 | KES 200 | 8 | KES 25 | Above |

What the planner is and is not
A calculator cannot predict results, and this one does not try. It is a spending plan for a pastime that costs money on average, in the same way you might cap what you spend on any other entertainment. The whole monthly figure should be money you can lose in full.
The figures are meant to be typed into the limit tools that regulation 87 of the Gambling Control (Conduct of Gambling Operations) Regulations, 2026 requires licensees to provide: deposit limits on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and loss, session and expenditure limits. How to use them is covered in the guide on setting a betting budget and limits.
The margin input comes from the margin calculator, and the reason the average cost never reaches zero is explained in the guide to the expected value of a bet. If a plan like this no longer holds once a session starts, read the responsible gambling page.
Questions and answers
What amount should I enter as the monthly budget?
Only money that is left after rent, food, transport, school fees, savings and debt payments, and that you could lose completely without consequences. If no such amount exists, the right budget is zero.
Why does the planner warn about stakes under KES 20?
Section 71(1) of the Gambling Control Act, 2025 says a player in an online gambling activity shall not bet less than twenty shillings in a competition. If your plan gives a smaller stake, the plan needs fewer bets, not a bigger budget.
What is the average cost of margin line?
It is the stake multiplied by the share the prices keep on average, which is 1 minus 1 divided by (1 plus the margin). It is a long-run average over many bets. A single session can end far above or below it.
Does the planner help me win back losses?
No. It has no such function and no calculation can do that. When the session ceiling is spent, the plan says stop until the next planned session.
