Editorial policy
Every legal statement must trace to a primary source by section, every sum must be reproducible, and nothing on the site may promote gambling. This page sets out how that is done.
Two kinds of statement, two tests
Pages on this site contain two kinds of claim, and each has its own test.
| Kind of claim | Test before publication | How it appears on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Law and regulation (a stake rule, a duty of a licensee, a penalty) | The sentence must match the text of the Act or regulation, and the section number must be given | Section or regulation cited in the text; document listed under Sources with the date it was read |
| Mathematics (a conversion, a margin, an expected value) | The formula must be standard and the worked figures must be recomputed independently | Formula block, then a case labelled "Illustrative example" |
| Anything else that cannot be verified | It is left out | Not published |
Sources that count
Primary sources only: the Gambling Control Act, 2025, the regulations made under it in 2026, and pages published by the Gambling Regulatory Authority and other official Kenyan bodies. News articles, forums, affiliate sites and encyclopaedia entries are not used as sources.
Where the regulator's list of licensed companies is mentioned, it is the list for the 2025/26 trading period, and readers are told to check the live register because it changes.
Review and the use of AI tools
Texts on this site are prepared by the editorial team with AI tools and are checked automatically against primary sources before publication.
In practice that means the following. Drafts are written with the help of AI language tools working from the official texts. An automated check then tests each page for missing sources, forbidden promotional wording, broken links, required safety notices and overlap with other pages.
No named human reviewer is published, and the site does not claim that a lawyer, statistician or addiction specialist has reviewed any page. The byline "BetSmart Kenya Editorial" is a collective label, not a person.
What the site will not publish
- Advertising for gambling or for any operator, including rankings, ratings, bonuses and links to operators.
- Wording that urges anyone to place a bet or open an account.
- Betting presented as income, investment or a fix for money trouble.
- Stories of winners, testimonials or anything aimed at people under 18.
- Claims of first-hand testing or of experience the site does not have.
Worked examples and calculators
Figures in worked examples are invented to show a method. They are not quotes from any bookmaker and should not be read as typical prices. The margin calculator and the other tools apply the same formulas as the guides and run entirely in the browser.
A calculator output describes the numbers typed in. It says nothing about what will happen in a match or a draw.
Dates and updates
Each guide shows the date it was last updated. The "accessed" date next to a source is the day that document was actually read. When the law changes or an error is found, the page is edited and the change is handled as described on the corrections page.
Independence
No operator pays for coverage, and there is nothing on the site an operator could buy. The current funding position is on the funding page.
